The Last Post

Today we return home. I have booked a taxi to take us to the airport which fails to materialize-maybe because I booked it for one month henceπŸ˜’  I figure we can eat 4 dinners on our way home-1 at Paris airport; 1 on plane to Frankfurt; 1 at Frankfurter airport and 1 on the plane to Singapore. The Luftwaffe  Lufthansa staff ooze with true German charm but we arrive safely in Singapore where I manage to purchase some rare whiskies. The Singapore airlines leg is pretty uncomfortable with our accommodation akin to a coffin. ' but mustn't grumble. We arrive safe and sound back in Melbourne, older and minimally wiser!

Last day In Europe

Image
We start our day by visiting a place recommended by our cheese shop guy-it is called the Atelier des Lumieres. It turns out to be a spectacular light and music show inside what seemed to be an old warehouse We then go on a self guided walk(le perambulation) We take in the park with a garden which the French have very imaginetively called Le Jardin des Plantes There was also a zoo(La menagerie)

A relatively good day

Today is spent wandering around Paris. We start off by visiting the catacombs-a grizzly collection featured(or should have been featured) in the Bone Collector A dog's idea of paradise In the evening we meet up with my long lost relatives for dinner On the way home a young stranger coomented on my fashion saying:"you look so cool" but then added:"i couldn't possibly dress like that because I am not old enough"😑😑

We visit the dead centre of Paris

Image
Today we move on to Paris and we travel via TGV(train of great vitesse). We return our car which goes crazy with grief when we leave The train is sleek and vitesses along at a great rate We have the leetle pique nique Luggage space is limited so we are grateful we pack so lightly.πŸ˜’ We arrive at Gare de Lyon and taxi to our hotel. This afternoon we visit the Per Lachaise cemetery-some people are buried here becuase they were good; some people were buried here because they were bad, but most people were buried here because they wre dead! Anyway it is quite a beautiful place to wander around with the graves of many luminaries(lee luminaires) Oscar Wilde Jim Morrison

Another Shatow

Due to circumstances outside my control(total brain fade) I assumed we were due to leave Avignon this morning but fortunately I spotted the error in time. Thank god my current wife does not mind packing and unpacking our collection of suitcases which mysteriously has grown by 50%πŸ˜•. So we decide to walk to the Abbey st Andrew via Villeneuve. The day is shockingly hot but we proceed under the blistering heat with only ice cream shops and cafes between us and death. Totally worn out and dehydrated we reach the fort and abbey which turns out to have a most delightful garden. Tonight we dine on steak-I honestly believe the French keep the toughest cuts of meat for Australians-something to do with revenge about La Perouse!

Ve vent to Ventoux

Image
Today we visit the iconic Mont Ventoux and god knows we would have cycled up if only we had remebered to bring our bikes. First of all we needed to charge up our Tesla-no easy task for your novice Tesla driver but we triumphed. Mont Ventoux is an iconic climb on the Tour de France route and how we envied those cyclists we passed as they toiled for hours up the steep winding roads without a break. We felt mentally that in fact we had cycled up this mountain, which many people would regard as more challenging than the physical effort, and we also deserved the adulation of the crowds. I even awarded myself the yellow jersey.

Aving a good time in Avignon

Image
Today we visit the sites of Avignon, but first a little history lesson. It turns out back in the 14th century there were 2 popes(as if 1 wasn't enough) and popes number 2, known by the Romans as the "Loser Popes" lived in Avignon, where surprise, surprise, they accumulated great wealth and power and built Luxury palaces to live in. So we are off to visit the Pope's Palace, which is real old and full of real old stuff. All the Avignon popes were keen gardeners The most famous cross dressing pope, Merlus Thumpickerus 14 We then visit the city market to stock up on bare essentials and then enjoy a modest lunch Snails cooked in defender sauce I ordered my burger rare We are then caught in a torrential downpour and arrive home saoked to the proverbial
