Kourosity on Naxos

Day 1 of hiking.

Following an adequate breakfast

We are pickedup by our surly Naxowegian driver Giannis and dropped off on the side of the road and told to find our own way home. The countryside is rugged and tends to go up and down a lot

We discover a couple of kouros; the story is that in about 600BC they were transporting these half finished statues down from the mountain to the sea. The foreman in charge of this delicate operation, Doofos, managed to drop and break these statues and so they were left in situ as a potential tourist attraction 2500 years later.

On our way back we are follwed by goats which our chef makes into a fine stew for dinner
